In the Old Testament, under many kings, idolatry and superstition had so prevailed that the book of the law of God in Josiah's time was a rare thing; and in Asa's time "they had been without the law and a teaching prophet for a long while" (2 Chronicles ). So that it is not so easy a matter to obtain the truth, that is found out with much. He arrived in Corinth and apparently spent the winter there (Acts 1 Corinthians ). Paul expressed a great deal of sorrow in this letter. He was led to defend his conduct again and again. The word “commend” is found nine times in this book (only 16 times in all of the New Testament). 1 Corinthians Know ye not that ye are the temple of God The apostle having spoken of the saints as God's building, of himself as a wise master builder, of Christ as the only foundation, and of various doctrines as the materials laid thereon, proceeds to observe to this church, and the members of it, that they being incorporated together in a Gospel church state, were the temple of God. 1 Corinthians , Peter Hanson once gave a speech in which he told what a moving experience it was even for him, a Canadian, to visit the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, D.C.
